Unplug for a day…

The Coach Ezines blog has a great post titled Out of the Office: Idea Factory. Here’s a snippet:

Sometimes the best [tag]ideas[/tag] brew when you’re in the car or out of the office. Standing in line, or standing in traffic can be extremely creative as your mind wanders.

I used to thrive on the idea that everything creative I needed done was best done out of the house : under a tree, top of a hill, in a coffeeshop, etc. The further from home I was, the better I did… and the happier I was.

Things have changed since those college days - I spend most of my time in my house and office, and I spend less time [tag]unplugged[/tag]. Cell phones, laptop, iPod - I’m so digitally connected I almost don’t remember not being connected. (I even find myself daydreaming of living the unplugged life altogether - moving to NZ and raising sheep or something equally as non-tech)

My theory is that the [tag]office[/tag], and home, is so filled with the ’stuff-to-do’ vibe that we can’t really open our hearts up to creativity. Can this be changed with [tag]Feng Shui[/tag] and other energy manipulations? Probably. I still think, in the long haul, getting out and unplugging and reconnecting with the universe is the way to go.

Coffee: UnpluggedSo here’s our challenge: take one day a week and completely unplug - if only for an hour. No iPod, no TV or Radio - just you, a good cup o’ joe, and pen and paper. Let your mind wander, and write your [tag]inspiration[/tag] down. You just may brainstorm the next big thing for you and your business.

What about living and working as a free agent out of a nice little (not too big) countryhouse, unplug at the local pub (not too busy, just the locals) on a lost afternoon, then go for a stroll through the fields back home and continue to work… Mmm, yes that’s how I see it.

Hmm… that’s not too bad either :) As long as it’ a lush countryside, I’m in.

Although, this makes me wonder if many free agents think as this? Is there a huge market for being ‘connected in the middle of nowhere’?
