Qwest’s Alienation of Customers: New user agreement fails to do any good for consumer

It’s just so ironic to me that Qwest Communications has recently decided to protect themselves - at the expense of all their current clientele.

Qwest (my dsl provider)just recently released a new user agreement(pdf), sent to all users - which, in effect says two things:

One: You can’t have a server on the line.
Yes, you heard that right. According to the new user agreement, anyone using a Qwest DSL line cannot have a server - not a VPN, not your own server…. nada, zip, zilch. EVEN if you’re not using Qwest’s DSL, if you’re using an isp who rents the line from Qwest, you can’t have a server. What Bulls***.

Two: You’ll be fined for spam - even if the spam was generated by a worm or virus. You’ll be fined $5 for each instance.

Qwest having customer retention issues as it is - the service is spotty at best, it barely gets the download/upload speeds it promises, the customer service line absolutely sucks… and that’s reason alone to leave this service. Now that I’ll get FINED if (heaven-forbid) my system gets a worm and sends out spam messages - and I can’t have a server? FORGET it.

I’ll tell you this - customer service means doing things for the customer… and service agreements like this only alienate your clientele. They’re already on the verge of bankruptcy, and I think this is just going to send them over that barrier.

If you’re in Qwest’s service area and using (or not!) DSL, call the FCC. Call Congress. Do something. This is a clear attempt to keep the US in sub-standard broadband service - and they’re only thinking of themselves.
