What does this mean for solo-preneurs?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

First of all, I know VERY little about rss-feeds, bloglines, and all that other blog-stuff that I haven’t taken the time to learn. It fell on the back burner awhile ago, and hasn’t been picked off yet… I’ll get to it. Eventually.

What can RSS do to us?

As solo-preneurs, we sit here a LONG time. For a good portion of my days, I’m here in my office, plugging away. My business is 100% virtual. I rarely leave my house for a client. FexEx picks up, everything can be delivered… I do a LOT of things online.

I usually get the news from the internet.

So what? What if you could get ONLY the news on the topics you were interested in? All delivered in one little package - like a newspaper. A newspaper that has EVERYTHING you like. Would you read another newspaper? Why? You’d already have articles tailored to your likes, classifieds sections devoted to your area(s), and television listings.

I was just back-reading in MasteringTheWeb.com, and apparently Ask Jeeves is doing just that.
Pretty cool, huh?

How do we know that we’re really getting all the news?
I have no cares for the local crime blotter. I never read the section. But, I do skim the community headlines. Usually I get a general idea of what’s going on and where. We already get something similar in a My Yahoo! page; but, I for one rarely use Yahoo!. This works good for a real-time headlines place, but usually it’s not my cup of tea. And then there’s CNN if something is REALLY going on… I could go on.

But, if I got ALL that information in my inbox (or where ever) There would even be no need to go to those websites.

I could really live in my own little percetptions for a long time. If no one mentioned a war in, say, zimbabwe - I wouldn’t know. It would be a little Erin Fantasy Land!

I don’t want to live in a bubble.

You get stuck in the routine, the routine where you don’t leave your house for days. Only come up for air when it’s necessary. It’s hard. And, you don’t have to do it. Someone can help - your family can help. You can partner with people to do that. It’s just getting past that barrier.

No one’s going to screw up your whole business just by stepping in. If you ask for help, people will honor your wishes and do what you want for YOUR business. They won’t turn it into something else, they won’t steal your baby, nothing. Ok?

Stop living in your bubble for a few hours and just be. Be somewhere else. Better yet - go to a spa. You deserve it for being hunched over a computer for 12 hours! :)
